Electrify is a dynamic digital media company that invests in and scales creators with established YouTube audiences. Astrum and Astrum Earth are part of our growing portfolio of factual, science-led channels.

Astrum explores the universe, from black holes and exoplanets to the physics of space travel, through cinematic storytelling and cutting-edge visuals. Astrum Earth brings that same clarity and ambition to our own planet, exploring climate, geology, natural phenomena, and the science shaping Earth’s future.

Together, the channels reach millions of viewers who are deeply curious about space, science, and the universe around them.

We are looking for a freelance Short-Form Writer to support the development of high-performing, social-first video content across both channels.

Purpose of the Role

The Short-Form Writer (Freelance) is responsible for ideating and scripting compelling, accurate, and platform-optimised short-form video concepts for Astrum and Astrum Earth.

Working closely with editorial and production teams, you will translate complex scientific topics into clear, engaging narratives designed for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok, and Facebook.

This is a light-touch role (2 days per month), focused on generating strong ideas, strong hooks, and retention driven scripts that set the foundation for high-performing content.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop original short-form video ideas aligned to Astrum and Astrum Earth’s editorial focus.

• Write clear, engaging, and scientifically accurate scripts for short-form platforms.

• Craft strong, scroll-stopping hooks and tightly structured narratives optimised for retention.

• Translate complex space and Earth science concepts into accessible, compelling storytelling.

• Work from briefs or existing long-form content to create short-form adaptations where relevant.

• Collaborate with editors/animators to ensure scripts translate effectively into visual storytelling.

• Iterate on scripts based on feedback and performance insights.

• Stay up to date with short-form trends, formats, and platform best practices.

• Contribute to occasional branded content ideation where required.

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience writing high-performing short-form content for social platforms.

• Strong understanding of hook-writing, pacing, and retention strategies.

• Ability to simplify complex topics without losing accuracy or nuance.

• Interest in space, astronomy, Earth science, or climate topics.

• Experience writing for visual formats.

• Strong research skills and attention to factual accuracy.

• Ability to work efficiently and deliver high-quality output within a limited time allocation.

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with remote teams.

• Background in science, journalism, or factual storytelling

Nice to Have:

• Experience working with educational or documentary-style content

• Familiarity with Astrum or similar science-led channels
