THE ROLEÂ
Copywriters are an important part of our creative team, working directly with the creative director, brand manager, art director, and writers and designers to help our university partners tell the most effective, engaging stories. This role ensures our copy and creative is consistent with the brand while helping optimize content for performance in paid channels and organic.
This position is offered as a contract-to-hire opportunity, meaning the initial engagement will be on a contract basis with the potential to transition into a full-time role based on performance, team fit, and business needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES but not limited to:
- Write ad copy, landing pages, website copy, emails, brochures, etc.Â
- Collaborate with the creative team to develop brand strategy/creative guidesÂ
- Work with editors and copy editors to revise content based on feedback from the creative team and clientsÂ
- Ensure that all content is brand consistent, relevant to the clientâs program and audience, grammatically correct, properly sourced, and tells an engaging storyÂ
- Participate in brainstorming sessions with the creative team, maintaining strategic and creative thinking to develop innovative and actionable creative initiativesÂ
- Conduct client-facing interviews to uncover their unique storyÂ
- Work with the creative team to help increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall production processÂ
- Communicate with the creative team via Asana, Slack, and Zoom / Google Meet
- Support the organic content team and internal content team as needed by writing longform articles and blogs
- Stay informed on creative performance and tests to help identify new opportunities for additional tests
- Experiment with video and collaborate on video projects
REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS
- Minimum of an associate degree in English, communications, marketing/advertising, journalism, public relations (or similar)Â
- 3+ years of experience as a copywriter for a publication, marketing firm, brand, or content creation company (or comparable)Â
- A compelling portfolio with samples showcasing skills that are relevant to our content goals
- Foundational general writing and research skillsÂ
- Firm general grasp on rules of grammar and tools of writingÂ
- Ability to comfortably vary voice, style, and other characteristics demanded by the industry, company, or target audience at handÂ
- Ability to ensure brand consistency throughout contentÂ
- Demonstrated commitment to compelling storytelling
- Demonstrated ability working and collaborating with diverse teamsÂ
- Incorporate feedback and take/give direction wellÂ
- Ability to work independently and with a team to meet deadlinesÂ
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with multiple clients simultaneouslyÂ
- General understanding of and/or past experience creating integrated content across marketing channels, including digital, social media, paid media, mobile, as well as offline mediums and print
- Curiosity and comfort seeking out information and learning new channels, media, skills, tools, ai, etc.
- Ability to lead or support client-facing discovery interviewsÂ
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSÂ
- Bachelorâs degree in English, communications, marketing/advertising, journalism, public relations (or similar)Â
- Journalism experience a plusÂ
- Familiarity with Asana is a plus but not requiredÂ
- Proofreading experience and familiarity with AP and The Chicago Manual of StyleÂ
- Experience working on marketing/advertising campaignsâfrom developing an overarching vision to producing compelling copy
- Higher ed experience is a plus
- Agency experience is a plus
- Video production and editing experience also a plus
- Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT and/or Claude
